BIOGRAPHY

Louisa Sophia Jefferson was born in 2005 in Hamburg, as the youngest of four daughters of an Peruvian-German family. At the age of four, she received her first violin lessons from Stefan Czermak, the principal violinist of the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra. A year later, at the age of five, she discovered her passion for playing the piano. Piano teacher Ludmilla Botchkovskaia laid the foundation for a solid musical education in the years that followed. Talented in many musical areas, Louisa continued to study both violin and piano until 2017, when, at the age of 11, she decided to focus solely on the piano.

That same year, she was awarded a scholarship from the Andreas Franke Academy and continued her education as a junior student at the University of Music and Theatre in Hamburg under Professor Julia Botchkovskaia.

In 2019, Louisa participated in a masterclass in Hamburg with the renowned piano teacher Rena Shereshevskaya. The encounter with this remarkable teacher marked an important turning point in her life. Since then, Louisa has studied under Shereshevskaya, first at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Rueil-Malmaison in France. In October 2021, Louisa passed the entrance exam for the prestigious École Normale de Musique Alfred Cortot in Paris (ENMP), where she continued her studies with Rena Shereshevskaya.

Since 2010, Louisa has regularly participated in national and international competitions, including Jugend Musiziert and the Steinway Piano Competition. After winning first prize at the International Feurich Competition in Vienna in July 2016, she was invited to perform at concerts and festivals in Amsterdam, Copenhagen, and Vyatskie Polyany in Russia. In 2019, the pianist received two further awards in her hometown of Hamburg: the inaugural Special Prize at the 3rd German-Chinese Competition for Young Pianists, and the “Viennese Classic” Special Prize at the Steinway Piano Competition. The first prize of the German-Chinese competition included an invitation to perform in Hamburg’s sister city, Shanghai.

Louisa made her first appearances before a large audience at various instrumental competitions held at the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg. In 2017, she gave her first solo concert at Reinbek Castle and, in December of that year, performed Haydn’s Piano Concerto in D major with the Neue Philharmonie Hamburg under the direction of Tigran Mikayelyan at the Laeiszhalle. Two years later, Cord Garben, chairman of the Johannes Brahms Society in Hamburg, invited the young pianist to perform at the 18th New Year’s Concert of the Society in Pinneberg.

In September 2021, Louisa gave a concert featuring works by Bach, Liszt, and Chopin at the Lichtspielhaus in Ebstorf (Lüneburg), where she has performed annually since. In July 2022, traditional piano manufacturer Steinway & Sons invited Louisa to present their limited edition Steinway Master Piano 8x8 series.

Since 2022, Louisa has been performing more frequently abroad. In August 2022, she appeared at the Piano à Saint-Ursanne Festival in Switzerland in the “Young Artists Discovery” category. That same month, she also performed at the Festival de Musique de Menton in France. During her studies, Louisa regularly took part in masterclasses, including with Rena Shereshevskaya at the ArtenetrA Masterclass in Celles-sur-Belle, Dmitri Bashkirov in Riga, Ilya Scheps, Roger Muraro, Jean Saulnier and Lang Lang at ENMP, and Mira Marchenko in Croatia.

In November 2023, she auditioned for the Flügel Fundus Foundation in Hamburg upon recommendation. The foundation supports young pianists who have completed their studies and are pursuing a professional career. Louisa received a special scholarship and performed in January 2024 and 2025, together with other scholarship recipients, at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg. She was also invited by Renaud Capuçon to participate in the Sommets Musicaux de Gstaad Festival in Switzerland in January 2024.

In May 2024, Louisa earned her Diplôme Supérieur de Concertiste / Artist Diploma from the École Normale Supérieure de Musique in Paris. In November 2024, she performed at a benefit concert for the Telethon in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, organized by the Les Étoiles du Classique festival. In February 2025, she was invited by Professor Alvaro Teixeira Lopes to perform at the 5th International Festival Santa Cecilia in Porto.
